About Heather Hoyns, DVM
Dr. Hoyns has had a lifelong interest in horses. As a teenager, she was an active 4-H member. As an active Endurance competitor, she has competed from the local level up to the FEI level, complementing her love of horses with her understanding of the equine athlete.
She has competitive experience in several equine disciplines, including Hunters, Combined Driving, Competitive Trail Riding and Endurance Riding. She is an FEI Veterinarian for Endurance, Dressage and Combined Driving.
After graduating Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Animal Science from Cook College, Rutgers University, with a special interest in Nutrition, Dr. Hoyns then went on to Cornell University, where she received her DVM degree in 1981. She practiced Equine Medicine in New Jersey for 5 years before relocating to Vermont in 1986.
Dr. Hoyns became deeply interested in Equine Dentistry while still in veterinary school. She has remained on the cutting edge of dentistry by continuing to take advanced education programs offered by the American Association of Equine Practitioners, University of Minnesota and other associations. She is a member of the American Veterinary Dental Society.
In keeping with her mission to provide the best care for your horse, Dr. Hoyns became certified in Veterinary Acupuncture in 1996. She is a member of the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society and the American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncture. Dr. Hoyns treats both horses and small animals with acupuncture.
Recognizing that chiropractic care complements acupuncture and is important in keeping an athlete at peak performance, Dr. Hoyns became certified in Animal Chiropractic in 1997. She is a life member of the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association.
Dr. Hoyns’ other memberships include the American Association of Equine Practitioners, the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Vermont Veterinary Medical Association, the USEF, the American Endurance Ride Conference, and the Green Mountain Horse Association.
As a Master Gardener, Dr. Hoyns enjoys working in her garden and around her property when she is not working with horses.
